Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking about a couple of his midfielders ahead of Chelsea’s penultimate game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion.
In the middle of the park, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher are the players who Mauricio Pochettino has heavily relied on this term.
In total, Caicedo has made 46 appearances, Fernandez, 40, and Gallagher, 48.
With two games left to play, Gallagher could end up getting to 50, but Fernandez will be unable to add to his 40 because of injury.
The World Cup winner recently spoke about how much of a mess Chelsea were in when he first arrived at the club.
Mauricio Pochettino makes big claim about one of his Chelsea players
It has been a disappointing season for Chelsea, who have missed out on Champions League football for a second year running.
Nevertheless, Pochettino still has some very good players in his squad. For the 52-year-old, one of them is capable of getting into any team in the world.
Speaking about Fernandez ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Brighton, he told the Evening Standard and the rest of the English media: “Enzo is a fantastic player who can fit in any team in the world. He will become stronger with one year’s worth of experience.
“He is going to be fantastic for Chelsea.”
Why Enzo Fernandez could play for any top team
Fernandez is exceptional on the ball. He is a midfielder who is able to pass forwards and get attacks going.
As per FBref, the Argentina international has made 8.82 progressive passes per 90 minutes over the last year, putting him in the 97th percentile among his positional peers.
With passing like that, Fernandez probably could get into a team like Manchester City or Barcelona.
He is Chelsea’s second-most expensive signing ever, so his critics will probably be demanding more than the above. But technically, it is clear to see that Fernandez is elite.
